Category: Let's talk
Hello.
I am in Spain at the moment and i traveled from England using an airline called Ryan air. When i was looking through their website i found out that they will allow the use of mobile phones during flights from the first of July 2007. I found the subject very interesting and i did some research on the internet.
Apparently Ryan air is not the first one that is going to do that. Emirate an airline from Dubai already started using this service at the beginning of 2007.
For more information you can read at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=415303&in_page_id=1770&ct=5
So what do you think of this?
Would you personally be happy to use a mobile phone during flight?
I think as i don't like flights and i fly on my own i would be glad to text some friends during the flight to pass the time or even make a call. But i understand that if people start using their phones flights will become noisy with ringtones etc. In the articles it says that airlines would encorage passengers to use the silence mode.
So it would be interesting to read oppinions. Personally i look forward for airlines to allow the use of mobile phones.
i guess the silent mode is okay, though i am sure there are many people that are trying to enjoy the flight, so as long as the passengers don't shout across the cabin, i guess it will be okay. alternative? why not just text, i know, but passengers don't want to be hearing your private convosations
I don't agree with it. Specially when you are in long flights the last thing you want to do is be listening to people yap and yap on there phones.
i thaught they claimed it can tamper with the computers and instruments for the plane? am i wrong?
No you are not wrong. I read a wikipedia article about it. The problem was when the phone was trying to connect to a reciever on the ground. Because of the speed of the plane the phone would try to connect to more than one reciever and that would make problems. And also it would interfear with the aeroplane sistem. But now they are going to have something above each seat which is going to control the signal and it is going to connect to a satelite rather than the reciever on the ground.
But maybe somebody can explain it better. I am not sure if i understood it right
.
Although I've never really thought about it before, one of the big pluses to flying was the fact that you didn't have to have other peoples telephone conversations inflicted upon you while in transit. You just have to love the self-important business men who feel that everything they say is so significant that not only the person on the other end of the virtual line needs to hear it, but also everybody else traveling in the carriage or bus etc. Or what about those really dense types who don't realize that the phone was invented for the express purpose of not having to shout at somebody in order to be heard.
Of course I accept that the mobile phone has become an established part of everyday life for billions of people, and with good reason. Never the less I actually can't stand the things, consider them to be a blight on society in fact and, just in case you hadn't worked this out for yourselves yet, I think this is a monumentally bad idea.
Dan.
Hi Dan.
I agree with you that people seam to speak loud on the phone for a strange reason. Maybe the noice of car, buss, train etc makes them to do that.
I think a solution would be if they allowed people to text from their seats but maybe they could make phone calls in the toilets only or in a small room especially for voice calls. I think that would work. Now i need to contact ryan air and tell them hahaha.
Very interesting oppinions. Look forward to hear more.
I'm so used to hearing people on there phones all the time that I don't think it would even phase me.
Maybe though a phone section and a non phone sectio isn't such a bad idea, but personally I don't see anything wrong with it.
HEARING OTHER PEOPLE'S CELL PHONE CONVERSATIONS IS ONE OF MY BIGGEST PET PEEVES. That's why I bring a CD player with me.
I'd be too busy listening to my mp3 player or playing with my psp to care.
Like I said, I'd have the CD player with me, but if people are talking on their cell phones loud enough for me to hear over my music, then I'd get pissed off.
